Mile 12 continues the steady climb to the finish line with approximately 150 feet of elevation gain. Moving along mile 12 runners may notice some street names that are more familiar than others. After a right turn on Curtis runners will find Chaucer St. to the left and after a left turn on  Channing Way runners will cross Browning St. and Bonar. St., with Poe St. only one block away. This neighborhood of Berkeley is known as Poet’s corner. It has long been considered part of West Berkeley by locals, despite being east of San Pablo Avenue.

On race day, the residents of Poet’s Corner can often be found on their porches, cheering runners along as they make their way to the final portion of the course.
