Charity Spotlight: Makerspace at Longfellow Middle School

Donate to the Berkeley Public Schools Fund, the official charity partner of the Biofreeze Berkeley Half Marathon.

The Berkeley Public Schools Fund, the official charity of the Biofreeze Berkeley Half Marathon, is proud to have been an integral part to the opening of the new Makerspace at Longfellow Middle School through a Strategic Impact Grant.

At the new Makerspace, Longfellow students will be able to create hands-on maker projects.   The goal is for the Makerspace to eventually become a “hub” for maker education in the district. As their first participatory project, Longfellow students were joined by teachers, parents, other members of the Longfellow community, as well as “expert” makers, to build tables for their new Makerspace.

The Berkeley Public Schools Fund provides teacher grants, Strategic Impact Grants, and volunteers to all the public schools in Berkeley. They believe in providing a rich educational experience that guides all students to academic excellence and provides them with opportunities to make positive contributions in the world. Their goals are to reach for equitable outcomes and work to close the achievement gap.
