Announcing the Official Launch of the Bay Area Challenge!

Runners are Invited to Conquer Five Iconic Bay Area Races in 12 Months
The “Bay Area Challenge” offers a unique and thrilling experience for both seasoned athletes and first-time runners. Participants can complete any distance in the Berkeley Half Marathon (excluding 1K distances), Giant Race, Oakland Marathon, San Francisco Marathon (excluding Sebastian’s 1K), as well as the San Jose 8K & Half Marathon, though they must complete five events consecutively. Interested runners can join anytime to complete the five consecutive events challenge. Virtual races will also qualify.

Participants will have the opportunity to conquer the following races:

The Oakland Marathon – March 15-17, 2024
The San Jose 8K & Half Marathon – June 2, 2024
San Francisco Marathon – July 20-21, 2024
The Giants Race – August 18th, 2024
The Berkeley Half Marathon – November 17th, 2024

Challenge Rules

  • To be automatically eligible, runners must register for all events with the same first and last name and date of birth.
  • Runners are eligible to receive the challenge medal at their fifth qualifying event in the series depending on where they started (Example:  If you start at the 2023 Berkeley Half Marathon and run all of the participating races consecutively after that,  you would be eligible to medal at the 2024 Giants Race,  as that would be your fifth qualifying event in the series). The events do not have to be in the same year but they do need to be consecutive. If you skip an event, the challenge starts over.
  • Upon completing their fifth qualifying event, runners must pick up their commemorative medal at the race.  Medals will not be mailed.
  • Once a runner completes the challenge, the challenge starts again.
