Give for Good: Canned Food Drive at Packet PickUp

Since our inaugural race four years ago, Biofreeze Berkeley Half Marathon has partnered with Berkeley Public Schools Fund to raise crucial dollars for educational grants that enrich classrooms throughout Berkeley.

You’ll see lots of Team Schools Fund runners out on the course on race day. Currently, there are 45 team members raising money for Berkeley Public Schools Fund through the Biofreeze Berkeley Half Marathon. Among those fundraisers is local youth, Henry Badoud, who is participating in the 5K Race on November 20th.

New in 2016, in support of young runners, like Henry Badoud, Berkeley Public Schools Fund, has secured a first-of-its-kind dedicated educational grant for a Youth 5K runner. This grant will be awarded to the overall winner of the Youth 5K race division at the Award Ceremony on November 20th. The $100 grant will go directly toward enriching the classroom of the Youth 5K division winner. In 2016, the Biofreeze Berkeley Half Marathon Youth 5K race division, open to children 12 and under, has seen significant growth, and we expect 200 youth runners to participate on November 20th.

We’re proud to be event partners with this local organization again in 2016, and are on our way to reaching their fundraising goals – and you can help! At Packet Pickup you’ll  have the opportunity to see Schools Fund Team in person where you can learn more about the great work they do. And, thanks to our Official Protein Bar, Power Crunch, you can earn a thank you gift at Packet Pickup if you give a can of food to their food drive or make a donation to Schools Fund (more details below). Generosity never tasted so good!

A Note From Power Crunch on the “Power Crunch it Forward” Canned Food Drive: This holiday season we are running an Overcoming Obstacles program. The first part of this program includes collecting canned food items at the packet pick-up 11/18-11/19, as part as our holiday food drive. The goal of this food drive is to try and feed 200 hungry families this holiday season. The second aspect of this program comes to life when we provide educational programs, and a day of fun for kids and families when the food is delivered. These programs include how to overcome life’s obstacles, set goals, and live an active and healthy lifestyle.
